Recent research has shown that music can help develop areas of the brain which are otherwise unstimulated by any other activity. We encourage our students to explore musical avenues with the aim of improving other areas of study, such as maths, literacy and verbal memory. At Tile Hill Wood we are able to offer instrumental music lessons through the Coventry Performing Arts Service. We currently offer lessons on the following instruments:
Instrumental lessons take place during the school day on a rotating timetable basis. This means that your daughter will leave a class lesson to attend her instrumental lesson. It is her responsibility to catch up on any work missed. There are 32 lessons spread over the academic year. The school subsidises lessons but a fee is still payable. This year our lesson fee structure has changed. Other than the endangered instruments listed below all lessons will now cost either £120 for half an hour or £90 for 20 minutes for the first term only. THEN, if your child has attended every possible lesson (other than illness) and has had her Practice Record signed at home, the fees will be reduced for the following two terms - £90 for half an hour and £70 for 20 minutes. Fees for group lessons are split evenly between members of the group, e.g. a group of 3 girls sharing a half hour lesson would pay £40 in term one and £30 in subsequent terms subject to their progress. All fees for instrumental lessons are payable in advance, and no student will be allowed to receive tuition unless fees have been paid. Payment for one terms’ tuition, or for the full year, should be attached with the returned contract to the Music Department. In cases of financial hardship it may be possible to arrange payment in monthly or weekly instalments through the school finance office, and students who receive free school meals may be entitled to a further reduction in fees, please contact Mrs. Tonkin for further details. Please read the attached contract very carefully (HERE). It is a binding agreement and you will notice that at least one half-term’s notice is required for the cancellation of lessons. It is important that the contract is signed and returned directly to Andrea McPolin in the music office as soon as possible. We are then in a position to book the appropriate tuition through the PAS. Please contact Mrs A Tonkin or Andrea McPolin on 024 76426217 if you have any queries at all.
