Business Studies Key Stage 5

At post-16 level we offer two distinct courses at both AS Level and A2 Level, GCE Business Studies and GCE Applied Business. Both courses are worth one A-Level, and are well valued by both higher education institutes and universities alike.

Both courses can lead to a range of careers, including Finance and Accountancy, Management, Human Resources, Marketing, Insurance and Banking to name just a few.

The main difference between the courses is their method of assessment, with the Applied Course being based predominantly around coursework as the main method of assessment while the GCE Business Studies course focuses on exams.

GCE Business Studies:
GCE Business Studies suits those people who prefer courses that are mainly assessed by examination. It covers a broad range of business areas to ensure that you have a strong level of knowledge but also the necessary breadth to be able to go on into employment or higher education with success. Areas covered include finance, human resources, marketing and operations management.

At AS Level:
The course is taught by module, with three modules in total and each module is broken into its 2 distinct sections.

Examinations are taken for each module:
  Unit 1 Jan Year 12 1 hour case study based short answer question 
  Unit 2 Jun Year 12 1 hour case study based short answer questions 
  Unit 3 Jun Year 12 1 hour case study based extended questions 

At A2 Level:
This part of the course is also taught by module, with three modules in total and each module is broken into its 2 distinct sections.


Examinations are taken for each module:
  Unit 4 Jan Year 13 1 hour 30 mins case study based extended questions 
  Unit 5 Jun Year 13 1 hour 30 mins report and essay 
  Unit 6 Jun Year 13 1 hour 30 mins case study based extended questions
