French Key Stage 5

If you have done – or expect to do very well at GCSE, this is an exciting time to be considering launching into study of French at post-16 level. We follow the new AQA syllabus, which evolves around the following themes at AS level: Media, Popular Culture, Healthy Living, Family and Relationships.

The A2 Programme of Study covers issues of importance in contemporary French-speaking society and also enables us to study the culture of France and French-speaking countries in great depth. Pupils have the opportunity to take part in a work experience placement in France during Year 13 and spend valuable time with our French assistant both during and outside of lessons.

This is an immensely rewarding course but it should be stressed that the necessarily rapid acquisition of grammar and topic-specific vocabulary, together with a consistently high workload and the need for considerable independence, make it challenging.
